The recent google penalizations hit many directories and seo sites. For example bigweblinks, aviva and alive dropped their PR and their sites don't show anymore under their own bussiness name. So my question is:
Is it worth running a new directory now? |

It was always very difficult to make money honestly in the directory industry and now it is tougher than ever. If you have any ideas about making some quick and easy money than a directory is not for you. But for those of us that have a touch of creativity and understand you must invest time and money in a new directory, there are still opportunities for sucess.

Let me put it this way, if you are here to earn some quick cash, I would certainly recommend starting something niche, and definitely not in the web hosting industry. I have a directory, quite new one, that I'm working on - even though there's lots of web directories out there, I am still working hard to catch up with the rest.
I've added lots of content into it - quality and SE optimized many of the pages - even released a product on Web Catalogue - official blog where I add articles for both daily net users and webmasters - my goal is not to make money, I want to bring quality users, that frequently visit my directory to search for sites they are looking for. My main goal is to provide a very well maintained web directory with no spam-listings, family-friendly is one of our most important factors. I will work hard to make it a educational web directory, adding lots of content for students will probably help me along the road. I still have lots of ideas to deal with - and it seems many web directory owners out there are willing to 'let go' of their web directories, by either spending time on other projects, at least, I won't do such play - I believe web directories have a very good future. Sorry if I wasn't specific enough, I meant if you are here to earn quick cash, directories are not the way to go (neither general or niche).

I have aspirations of building a quality directory, so I am trying to soak up all the info I can, but I still believe in building value into it as much as possible. What do you think? Adam |
