Default Random Anchor Text

One thing when I first started building links for my sites years ago, I'd only target the anchor text I wanted to rank for. For example, if I wanted to rank for the keywords "blue mustangs" and "red mustangs," I'd buy or trade links pointing to my site saying exactly those two terms.

Eventually I realized that it actually seems to hurt you not making it look genuine -- meaning, would people ONLY link to you with those keywords? Of course not, and Google knows this. So, I started varying the anchor text I linked to my site with -- "blue and red mustangs," "red and blue mustangs," "red blue mustang," etc.

I'd say only a small portion, maybe 30-40% of the amount of links I bought or traded actually had the exact anchor text I wanted to rank for.

What about you?

Throwing in "click here" or "here" links never hurt either

I agree and my most recent success in building anchor text has been using many different ones and variations to make it look more natural.

To this end I have been careful of buying domain names with the anchor text I want in them, even if they are a little longer I think it helps because you can use your actual domain name in a lot of the anchors and still recieve a \SEO benifit from it.

I certainly agree with you, and webmasters know about this kind of penalty, by the way I would like to extend that submission services, usually target the same title/anchor text, so it may not be such a good idea to use submission services that offer their service with the same title/description, as such things may turn bad instead of good.

Well, some of submission services I've encountered requires you to submit 5 titles and 5 descriptions, manual submission that is.

Variety of Anchor Text Helps a Lot but If the Description also Vary, It will be more better.
