Articles? Press releases? Asking? Buying? Social media sites?

What's the best way to gather links, as far as ROI is concerned?

I don't know if forum posting is really all that great for links. Does anybody know of someone experiences any benefit from solely or mainly forum links?

I just have to think that they must be devalued. A link from DigitalPoint.com's forums can't be worth much with probably millions of outgoing links. Can it?

Forums would be better to get traffic rather than PR. IE, if you bought a signature of a big time poster. I know a lot of guys have has quite a bit of success doing this for directories with DP. As far as search engine weight, I don't think sigs would count much...but a link is a link

Yep, also can build good relationships with other webmasters in your niche...which eventually will lead to more links if you play your cards right

Speaking of link baiting...my kickass marketing guy got one of my sites on the front page of fark.com the other day, it brought in over 10k visitors in a few days, loads of exposure and quite a few links for big authority sites...now that's link baiting!
