Default Does anyone use article directories?

I have been using article directories as a source of links and traffic since I made my first website. Some of my sites still get constant traffic from articles I wrote two and a half years ago!

On top of that, some of my articles have been picked up by large ezines which has resulted in traffic, forum registrations and newsletter signups.

So who uses them, and how are your results?

I just thought I'd add, the article directories themselves haven't really sent me any traffic (a few hits here and there) but it's the webmasters who pickup the articles that send the traffic. So basically, you're better off just submitting your articles to article directories that you would/do use yourself.

I have to agree with buldozerceto, I wouldn't either use such service, I would personally publish it on my blog if I had written a blog post.

I don't like them to be honest, if lets say, a user submits his or her blog post on your article directory, and does the same at 20-30 other article directories, there's a risk getting penalized for duplicate content issues.

Regards,
Meti

I've never actually tried to find an article in an article directory in my entire life.

I do find myself going to wikepedia, about.com and alot of blogs.

That's where I usually look for any resources to any projects. I have never, ever either browsed through an article web directory due to many reasons. It is so much easier to use the search engines to find interesting articles, though it may be useful for some students.

Believe it or not, I never even browsed dmoz for anything else but to see if a site is listed there.

The question would rather be, who does? I don't even believe net users (non-webmasters) even know about DMOZ, might be a small percentage that does, though I am quite sure that they don't use it for search-purpose.
