I am not sure if you mean by starting a niche directory you can earn quick money? But if you do, I disagree. Niche directories take more time to develop and it is usually harder to get out to your niche audience because they the tend to be smaller and/or less web savy than the target audience of general directories. I think the long-term pay off is worth it though.
